Hey yah!
If you’re reading this, chances are you have a thirst for adventure and a passion for exploring the hidden gems of Kenya. Welcome to Mara Nomads, where the spirit of exploration meets the thrill of off-road expeditions. We are more than just a travel group; we are a community of adventure enthusiasts who share a deep love for the diverse landscapes and unique experiences that Kenya offers. Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or new to off-road adventures, we have something extraordinary for you.
Mara Nomads organizes epic off-road trips and expeditions across Kenya, providing opportunities to explore remote and breathtaking destinations that are often off the beaten path. Our trips are designed to cater to different types of adventurers, from those who prefer the camaraderie of group travel to those who seek solitude in their journeys. We offer three main types of trips:
Our Overland Truck trips are perfect for those who don’t own a suitable vehicle for off-road adventures or simply prefer to travel with all the logistics taken care of. In these trips, we provide transportation in a spacious Overland Truck, along with meals and accommodation. This is a fantastic option for adventurers without 4x4 vehicles or those who want to enjoy the journey without worrying about the challenges of navigating tough terrains. While Overland Truck trips offer a comfortable and convenient way to explore, they are limited to less remote areas due to the size of the trucks and the difficulty of accessing the most rugged terrains.
For those who crave the thrill of driving through Kenya’s wild landscapes, our Self-Drive trips offer the ultimate adventure. These trips are divided into two categories:
Convoy trips are the heart of the Mara Nomads experience. Here, like-minded adventurers come together in their own 4x4 vehicles, forming a convoy that traverses some of Kenya’s most challenging and rewarding terrains. Convoy trips are perfect for those who yearn for banter, feeling of safety and security in numbers and camaderie.
Participants are responsible for their own transportation, meals, and accommodation, often camping in tents in remote locations where facilities are minimal. This self-sufficiency allows for a more immersive experience, connecting you deeply with nature and the landscapes you explore. Convoy trips are about teamwork, shared experiences, and the joy of discovering new places together.
If you prefer to travel independently or with a close-knit group of family, friends, or colleagues, our Solo trips are the way to go. These trips offer the flexibility to chart your own course while still benefiting from the knowledge and experience of the Mara Nomads community. Whether you’re a seasoned solo traveler or new to the concept, our Solo trips provide the perfect balance of freedom and adventure.
Becoming a part of the Mara Nomads community is easy and opens the door to a world of adventure. Here’s how you can get started:
Simply choose the trip that interests you from our annual calendar (published every December) and book your spot. No need for a 4x4 vehicle – just bring your adventurous spirit, and we’ll take care of the rest.
If you have a well-maintained 4x4 vehicle, you’re all set to join our Self-Drive trips. Make sure your vehicle is equipped with the necessary gear (detailed below), and you’ll be ready to embark on an unforgettable journey. Don’t have a 4x4? No worries – we can help you hire one so you don’t miss out on the adventure.
To ensure your safety and the success of the expedition, we have a list of essential requirements for Self-Drive trips. Here’s what you’ll need:
1. 4x4 or Select AWD Vehicle: A reliable 4x4 vehicle is a must for our expeditions, providing the power and traction needed to conquer challenging terrains.
2. Ground Clearance: Ensure your rim size is 18 inches or below to protect your vehicle’s undercarriage and navigate uneven surfaces.
3. All-Terrain Tires: Equipped with All-Terrain or Mud-Terrain tires for optimal grip on various surfaces.
4. Recovery Equipment: Carry essential recovery gear such as a tow rope and D-shackles to assist in case of vehicle immobilization.
5. Communication and Navigation: A Baofeng bf888s radio is mandatory for convoy communication, ensuring seamless interaction during the journey.
6. Basic Tools and Spare Parts: Include a tire repair kit, jack, spare parts specific to your vehicle, and emergency supplies like a first aid kit and fire extinguisher.
7. Camping Essentials: Pack a tent, camping gear, food, and drinking water, as many of the places we visit are remote with limited facilities.
For those who want to be more than just participants in our trips, joining the Mara Nomads community is a great way to connect with fellow adventurers, share experiences, and plan future trips. We have dedicated WhatsApp groups for Self-Drive trips and Overland Truck trips, where members can discuss upcoming adventures, exchange tips, and stay updated on the latest events.
