THE NORTH RIFT SAFARI CIRCUIT OVERLAND TRUCK TOUR

Background Information

This North Rift Safari Circuit will cover some of the most scenic places in Kenya, that is, the North Rift region that is known for having a rich cultural heritage, agro-tourism, sports and adventure tourism. The region famous worldwide as a hotbed for athletism with long and middle distance running as its signature sport and whose champions have put our country on the global map. But it also packs epic views of the Great Rift Valley, unparalleled natural beauty, very unique lakes and other hidden treasures.

The North Rift Safari Circuit trip will take guys through the most scenic parts of the North Rift and the Great Rift Valley. We shall tranverse the great and magnificent Great Rift Valley from its eastern flank to it western flank, go up and then down the Kerio Escarpment, cross the Kerio Valley, go up and then down beautiful Tugen Hills.

What you need to know

✅   Naiberi River Campsite & Resort where we shall stay on Day 1 is built on a hilly forest tribal land, which was once home to members of the ancient legendary Sirikwa tribe. Preserved on the site are excavations with stone sides, commonly called Sirikwa holes, which are believed to have been roofed and occupied by the inhabitants of a bygone age.

✅  Nestling at the floor of the Great Rift Valley and against the backdrop of the eastern slope of the Tugen Hills, the Lake Bogoria National Reserve and Lake Bogoria Spa Resort’s prime locale offers a stunning view of the valley. It is this stunning scenery and it being bird watcher’s paradise that makes the place a Unesco World Heritage Centre status.

Departure & Other Details

Because of how busy the Nairobi to Mau Summit and Western Kenya is, an early start is required. 5.30 am departure will ensure that we avoid most of the heavy transit goods trucks’ traffic.

Nairobi to Naiberi takes about 6 hrs. The road from Nairobi – Naiberi – Chepkorio is excellent tarmac.

However, the tarmac ends soon after Chepkorio and its gravel for 20-30kms then tarmac to Iten, Kabarnet, and to Marigat. It is a gravel road to Lake Bogoria Spa Resort, to the Lake Bogoria National Reserve, and back to the main road to Nakuru. From Marigat to Nakuru and Nairobi is tarmac.

The Campsites

We shall be staying at Naiberi River Campsite & Resort on the first night. The Resort has a camping site that is nicely integrated with nature, with pleasant tree shaded places tacked under beautiful trees and right next to the lovely little Naiberi river, with grassy meadows and enjoy a campfire in the evening as banter flows. There is also a swimming pool available for those who wish to cool off.

The camp site has changing rooms, clean flush toilets, slate walled hot showers and stone carved wash basins which provide a little touch of luxury for the campers in the ablution block.

For the second night, we shall stay at Lake Bogoria Spa Resort. The Resort is one of Kenyans oldest luxurious hotels. It is the only resort in Kenya with a natural heated pool. The pool waters are said to be naturally heated by the boiling springs and geysers of the Lake Bogoria National Reserve and are said to have therapeutic values.

The Spa also has changing rooms, clean flush toilets, hot showers and porcelain wash basins which are available for us campers.
