Calling all humanity lovers and off-road enthusiasts! All 4x4s and AWD cars welcome!

Prepare for an epic adventure that combines giving back to the less fortunate with some serious desert-racing fun! We'll be heading to the stunning Northern Kenya desert for 4 days of unforgettable experiences:

Community Work

Help us deliver books, sanitary towels, pens, and pencils to our brothers and sisters in the north. We'll visit local schools, plant drought-resilient trees with the community, and contribute to a greener future.

Desert Mayhem

Conquer the challenging desert terrain—mud and all! Spectators are welcome to witness the excitement!

Camping Under the Stars

Enjoy nights filled with camaraderie and campfire stories in the heart of the desert.

Event Highlights

- 📅 Date: Thursday to Sunday, March 6-9, 2025

-📍 Location: Northern Kenya

- ⛺ Accommodation: Camping at Camp Ndotto and Kalacha (fees apply). Room accommodations are also available.

- 😎 Activities: Epic road trip to the north, off-road driving, breathtaking landscapes, rock sliding, mountain stream swimming, desert racing, desert camping, and campfires (additional fees may apply).

What to Bring

- Walking: Hiking boots or sneakers, sandals, short pants, hat/cap

- Weather: Dress for warm/hot environments, a warm hoodie for cool evenings, snacks, refillable water bottle

- Sun Protection: Sunscreen, sunglasses

- Camping: Tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, camping chairs, table, etc. (Contact us on WhatsApp at +254 794 897226 orcall us on +254 703 626 897 for camping or accommodation questions)

- Food: Bring your own food, drinking water, cooking essentials, utensils, and cutlery.

Vehicle Essentials (for all vehicles)

- Baofeng BF-888S radios (mandatory)

- Double cylinder portable air compressor (optional-recommended)

- Strong tow rope and two D-shackles (mandatory)

- Fire extinguisher, first-aid kit, toolbox with essential tools, car jack, wheel spanner, spare tire

- Appropriate Tires: Mud-terrain or all-terrain tires recommended. No highway terrain tires.

- AWD Cars: AWD cars with high ground clearance are welcome. And their tow hook.

- School Books and Supplies: Bring new or used school books, story books, exercise books, pencils, and pens. Contact Mara Nomads for collection and transportation details.

- Sanitary Towels: Bring sanitary towels or contribute monetarily for Mara Nomads to purchase on your behalf.

- Organizational Contributions: Organizations are welcome to contribute books, sanitary towels, solar panels, etc. Reach out to Mara Nomads for coordination.

FAQs

No. The ruggedness of the north, the climate and the activities in the Desert Run are not kid friendly unless one is a very seasoned Nomad parent, and has prepared themselves sufficiently.

Mara Nomads stickers will be available.

We meet at 4.30 am outside Supreme Court, depart at 5.00 am sharp on Thursday 6th March and proceed to Ngurunit.

Desert Run 1 🔥Overland Truck option: KES 28,550 per person (early bird 10% discount if paid by 7th Feb 2025). Covers: - Transport to and from Nairobi - 3 nights’ camping accommodation (tents and mattresses, 2-person sharing) - Ngurunit Rock Slides entry fees, Chalbi conservancy fees - Breakfast and dinner (lunch not included) - Drinking water with meals - Guide fees Excludes: Lunch and any personal extras. 🔥Self-drive option: KES 7,500 per person (early bird 10% discount if paid by 7th Feb 2025). Covers: - Guide fees - Security costs - Expedition organization - Campfire setup Excludes: - Transport, camping accommodation, conservancy/park fees, meals (we’ll collect fees separately and pay directly to our hosts and service providers). Camping fees typically range between KES 1,000–2,000 per person, per night.

🥳 Only at Camp Ndotto, but none for the other two campsites. The accommodation facilities at Camp Ndotto are limited in number and will be booked on a "first-come, first-served" basis. 🥳 Showers and toilets are available at campsite 1 (Camp Ndotto). 🥳No water, showers and toilets are available at campsite 2 (Chalbi Desert - we will be wild camping, so Self-drivers carry your water, food, camping equipment etc. Overland Truckers will be accommodated separately at a place with some basic facilities such as water, toilets, bathroms etc.). 🥳Campsite 3 has only very basic toilets and bathrooms, and water. We will be camping on the golden sands of a dry Laggaa. 🥳Self-drivers must be self-sufficient for this trip. Contact us for advice and assistance. 🥳Overland Truckers will be taken care of by us (transport to and from Nairobi, camping accommodation (tents and mattresses, 2-person sharing) and two meals per day will be provided to them (breakfast and dinner only)) 🥳Self-drivers who need tents for hire can contact us. Self-drivers interested in rooms at campsite 1 and Kalacha can also contact us.

Those wishing to camp can carry: ✅Camping Gear: Tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, camping chair ✅Cooking Gear: Cooking equipment and utensils (plate, cup, utensils), food and drinks ✅Hygiene: Toiletries, headlamp/flashlight, towels (camping and bath) ✅Camp Setup: Tarp or awning or portable gazebo (optional but highly recommended) More helpful packing lists, advice and recommendations will be shared in our exclusive Desert Run WhatsApp group where participants will be added after registration.

Only 4x4s and (select and Nomad-approved AWD cars) are allowed. Only well-equipped and capable 4x4s driven by very skilled drivers will participate in the mud section. 2WD cars are ineligible because of the terrain.

The following items are MANDATORY for each vehicle: ✅Communication: Baofeng bf-888s radios with a pre-determined channel for communication (mandatory) ✅Recovery Gear: Double cylinder portable air compressor, strong tow rope, two D-shackles (mandatory for mud offroaders) ✅Safety: 1kg fire extinguisher, first-aid kit (important) ✅Tools: Toolbox or bag with essential tools, appropriate car jack, wheel spanner, spare tire (important) ✅Tires: Mud-terrain or all-terrain tires (recommended for mud offroaders participants)

1. Vehicle Preparation: ✅ *Mandatory Items:* Ensure you have a strong tow rope & D-shackles, full-size spare tire, fire extinguisher, well-stocked first-aid kit, basic tool kit, Baofeng bf-888s Radio, and 2 x 20L fuel jerry cans. ✅ *4WD Maintenance:* Get your 4WD system serviced, inspected, and tested thoroughly before the trip. ✅ *Driver:* The driver must be sober, attentive, and experienced in off-road driving. ✅ *Maximum Vehicle Prep*: Have your cooling systems, gearbox, brakes, and engine checked, repaired, and tested well in advance. ✅ *Spare Parts:* Pack essential spare parts like belts, hoses, radiator caps, filters, and fuses. 2. Supplies: ✅ *Water (Days 2 & 3):* Bring enough water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning, as there will be limited availability at campsites. ✅ *Shovel/Spade:* Pack a shovel for sanitation purposes during wild camping on Day 2. ✅ *Sun Protection:* Bring an awning or portable gazebo for shade. ✅ *Shower:* Portable shower tent (optional) - you can use wet wipes or shower at Campsite 3. A shared portable shower tent will be provided. 3. Additional Notes: ✅ Pack extra fuel in jerry cans (one or two 20L jerry cans)
